Signature Events

Throughout the year, TasPride hosts a number of key events to celebrate and raise awareness of the Tasmanian GLBTI community.

Mardi Gras Parade - March 2010

TasPride is excited to once again produce a Tasmanian float for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Plans are already underway for 2010. More

In 2008, Tasmania was represented by over 100 volunteers from all over Tasmania and interstate who quite literally put Tassie on the map. It was the largest float Tasmania had ever entered in the parade. The Tassie Devil's team marched up Oxford Street performing a choreographed routine in front of over half a million spectators.

The Tassie team also took part in the 2009 parade - launching the TasPride brand to the world. The overall parade theme of ‘Nations United’ gave us a great opportunity to fly the flag for Tasmania and celebrate the strong and united Tasmanian GLBTI community. The costumes were decorated with the iconic TasPride branding.

Queens Ball - June 2010

The Queen's Ball is one of the longest standing and most-anticipated events on the GLC Centre calendar and in 2008 attracted a crowd of over 800 people.
It is held on Sunday of the June long weekend each year and has a reputation for unveiling some of the most creative and outrageous costumes hiding away in the wardrobes of the GLBTI community. Previous themes have included Superqueero, Brokeback Mountain and Sunday Night Fever. The Queen’s Ball is renowned for having some great shows, such as Millie Minogue and Savage.

An absolute must on the Tasmanian GLBTI calendar and the Australian party circuit. More details

TasPride Festival - November 2009

The biggest celebration of 2009 for the GLBTI community in Tasmania will be taking place right across the state for two weeks from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 15 November. This is a great period for renewing friendships and gaining new ones, with many social activities.

Details for the 2009 Festival are online now. More

The festival underwent a major transformation in 2008 and has emerged as one of the highlights of the vibrant Tasmanian events calendar, which can be explored in detail at www.discovertasmania.com.

Following the success of last year’s TasPride Festival, we expect 2009 to be even bigger and better.

Sporting a jam-packed schedule of high-quality events, TasPride Festival will bring new visitors to the state, and offers a great opportunity for Tasmania to show off its cultural diversity – and a GLBTI community that is movin’ and shakin’!

Don’t miss out on the TasPride parties, including the legendary opening night Halloween Party. The TasPride festival has been graced by some of the country’s top DJs including Dan Murphy (SYD) and DJ Josh (ADL), as well as local talents DJ Marq, Tom and D2M. Other exciting events during the TasPride festival include the film festival, cultural celebrations, live music, theatre and cabaret, community events, the family day picnic and much, much more.

If you’ve ever wanted to explore the natural and cultural wonders of Tasmania, the TasPride Festival is the ideal time to come over to the heart-shaped island! This year the Program Guide will include touring options, sample itineraries and special offers for the GLBTI community visiting our shores.

Queer Art Exhibition - September 2010

Coming into its sixth year in 2010, the Artfully Queer Art Exhibition is a collective art project for members, friends and family of the GLBTI community.

Deciding who, what and how we are is a complex process. Are we ideas, bodies, statistics, humans, animals, labels, numbers or definitions? Are we all of these things or none of them? Can we ever really know? And is the journey more important than the destination?

The Artfully Queer Exhibition invites artists to explore issues confronting same sex relationships or sexuality issues. It's an opportunity for artists to help us us all Figure It Out. Anyone is welcome to submit artwork for the exhibition.
